DESIGN OF A 75ft FOIL-ASSISTED MOTOR YACHT
Introduction
The following project covers the preliminary design of a 75ft foil-assisted motor yacht. The vessel was designed to the recreational craft directive standards, since it is aimed for recreational purposes. The towing tank is used to to analyse the resistance data and the performance of the vessel when operating under foil-assisted conditions. Moreover, a theoretical analysis was completed to further
investigate the hydrofoil system and define the possible effects induced by the system.

Resistance Results
For speeds below 22 knots the towing tank results showed an increment of the resistance; compared to the bare hull resistance, due to the increase in frictional resistance added by the immersion of the hydrofoil. For speeds greater than a Froude number of 0.85 resistance reductions were achieved, with a 25% reduction at the target speed of 30 knots, and a 30% reduction at a speed of 34 knots.
